Short answer
Nasal tip plasty (tip rhinoplasty) is surgery that reshapes the cartilage at the tip of the nose to refine, lift or narrow it without breaking the nasal bones. It usually takes 1-2 hours under general anaesthesia or local anaesthesia with sedation. Most patients stay in Istanbul for 6-7 days and return to work after about 7 days.
What is nasal tip plasty?
Nasal tip plasty is a focused form of rhinoplasty that changes only the lower part of the nose. The surgeon reshapes the tip cartilages to make the tip slimmer, better defined, higher or more supported.
Because the nasal bones are not broken, there is usually less bruising around the eyes than with full rhinoplasty, and recovery is often a little easier.
Who is it for?
Tip plasty suits people who like their nasal bridge but want to change the tip. If you also have a hump or a crooked bridge, a full rhinoplasty is usually more suitable.
- Wide or bulbous tip
- Drooping tip that lowers when smiling
- Poorly defined or boxy tip
- Asymmetric tip or nostrils
How the procedure is done
The surgeon reaches the tip cartilages through incisions inside the nostrils or a small incision between them. The cartilages are reshaped with fine stitches, trimmed where needed, and supported with a small cartilage graft if the tip needs more strength.
The nostrils can be narrowed in the same procedure. A light tape or small splint protects the tip for about a week.
Metropolmed's own surgical team performs the operation in Istanbul, and a personal coordinator stays with you from your first message to your 12-month follow-up. Your hotel, VIP transfers and a medical interpreter are arranged before you land in Istanbul.
Tip plasty or full rhinoplasty?
Tip plasty is the right choice when the bridge already looks good from the side and the concern is limited to the tip. It avoids work on the nasal bones, which shortens recovery.
If reducing the tip would make a small hump look more obvious, or if the nose is wide at the bones, a full rhinoplasty usually gives a more balanced result. Your surgeon studies your profile and front view and tells you honestly which option suits you.
Recovery and results
Swelling is mainly around the tip, with little or no bruising around the eyes. The tape or splint is removed after about 7 days. Most patients return to work after about a week and to sport after 3-4 weeks.
The tip is the last part of the nose to settle, especially if your skin is thick. It looks refined within the first months, but final definition usually takes 6-12 months.
Avoid knocks to the nose, heavy lifting and bending down for the first 2 weeks. Taping the tip at night for a few weeks after the splint comes off can help swelling settle. Glasses can usually be worn sooner than after full rhinoplasty because the nasal bones are not broken.
Risks and safety
Risks include infection, asymmetry, prolonged tip swelling, stiffness of the tip, numbness and a tip that looks over- or under-corrected. Thick skin can limit how defined the tip can become.
A doctor assesses your tip cartilage and skin thickness in person and explains whether tip plasty alone will give the change you want.
Recovery timeline
- Day 1Return to hotel or stay 1 night, tip taped.
- Week 1Tape or splint removed, fly home.
- Week 3-4Back to sport and normal activity.
- Month 3Tip clearly refined, still slightly swollen.
- Month 6-12Final tip definition.
Frequently asked questions
Is nasal tip plasty less invasive than full rhinoplasty?
Yes, because the nasal bones are not broken. This usually means less bruising and an easier recovery.
Can tip plasty lift a drooping nose?
Yes, lifting and supporting a drooping tip is one of its main uses. The amount of lift is planned with you before surgery.
Why does my nose tip stay swollen?
The tip has thicker skin and more soft tissue than the rest of the nose. Swelling there can take 6-12 months to settle fully.
Can fillers fix the nasal tip instead?
Fillers can hide small bumps but cannot make a wide tip narrower. Tip plasty changes the cartilage itself and gives a permanent result.
