Short answer
Needle-free anaesthesia uses a pressure-based device to deliver local anaesthetic through the skin without a needle, which makes the first numbing step of a hair transplant much more comfortable. It takes a few minutes, works within minutes, and is included in every Metropolmed hair transplant package.
What is needle-free anaesthesia?
Needle-free anaesthesia is a way of giving local anaesthetic without a needle. A pressure-based device pushes a fine stream of anaesthetic through the skin, numbing the surface in seconds.
For many people, the injections at the start are the most uncomfortable part of a hair transplant. Needle-free delivery is designed to make that first step easier.
It is used in every Metropolmed hair transplant, whether you have Sapphire FUE, DHI, a Hybrid procedure, or a beard or eyebrow transplant.
Who is it for?
It is included for every hair transplant patient and is especially helpful for some people.
- People who dislike or fear injections
- Patients having a long session or a large area
- Women's, beard and eyebrow procedures
- Anyone who wants the start of the day to be calmer
How it works on the day
The device is pressed gently against the area to be treated and a short pulse delivers the anaesthetic. You may feel a brief pressure or a light snap. Once the surface is numb, any further anaesthetic needed for deeper numbness is given into skin that is already numb, so it is felt much less.
Most patients need 3 days in Istanbul for a hair transplant. Your hotel, VIP transfers and a medical interpreter are arranged before you land, and a personal coordinator stays in touch from your first message to your 12-month check-up.
Needle-free anaesthesia and sedation
Needle-free anaesthesia controls pain locally, and you stay fully awake. If you would also like to feel deeply relaxed through the day, sedation can be added; it is included in the Premium and Elite packages.
Your coordinator explains the differences before you book, so you can choose the comfort level that suits you. Both options are combined with careful local anaesthesia, and the team checks your comfort throughout the day.
What you feel during the procedure
Once the area is numb, most patients feel only pressure or movement during the procedure, not pain. Top-ups are given during the day if the numbness starts to fade, so let the team know straight away if you feel anything sharp.
Many patients rest, listen to music or watch something during the procedure. There are breaks for rest and lunch, and the team checks your comfort regularly.
As you are fully awake with local anaesthesia only, you can usually walk out of the clinic normally at the end of the day, and a driver takes you back to your hotel.
Risks and safety
Side effects are usually minor: brief redness, small marks or mild bruising where the device was used. Allergic reactions to local anaesthetic are rare, so tell us about any previous reactions. It reduces discomfort but does not remove every sensation, and a doctor confirms your plan in person.
