GENERAL INFORMATION

What is Hair Transplantation?

Hair transplantation is a microsurgical procedure that allows the transfer of healthy hair follicles from a part of the body called ‘donor zone’ to the bald or balding part of the body called ‘recipient zone’ as a result of the examination performed by a specialist doctor.  This procedure is usually used in the treatment of baldness in men.
In this minimally invasive procedure, grafts containing healthy hair follicles that are genetically resistant to hair loss (such as the back of the head) are transported to the scalp where baldness is seen.
Hair transplantation can be applied to the recovery of eyelashes, eyebrows, beard and mustache hairs, as well as filling the scars caused by surgeries such as accidents, face lifts or previous hair transplants.  Hair transplantation is different from the skin graft;  grafts involve almost all of the dermis surrounding the epidermis and hair follicle and are transplanted by several small grafts instead of a single skin strip.
According to the latest statistics published by the International Society of Hair Transplant Surgery, hair transplantation has increased by 60 percent since 2014.

Who can apply hair transplantation?

About 50% of men over the age of 50 experience hair loss problems.  Therefore, hair transplantation is the most commonly used cosmetic surgery by men.  From this point of view, hair loss should not be considered as a problem experienced only by men.  Many women also experience problems such as hair loss or thinning.
Hair loss can occur as a result of genetic heredity, aging, traumatic injuries or various medical conditions.
Regardless of the cause, if there is a sufficient amount of healthy hair follicles in the body, hair transplantation can be performed successfully in all people.  Not only the scalp, eyebrow, mustache or beard hair in all areas where this process is easily performed without encountering any problems.

Why does hair loss occur?

Although hair loss is more common in older adults, it can occur at an earlier age, even in children.  If a normal individual is considered to have about 100,000 hairs, hair loss of around 50 to 100 hairs per day is considered normal and naturally there is no loss of this diameter.
Hair loss can develop slowly over the years or may occur suddenly.  It is almost impossible to count the amount of hair lost in a given day.  So if you notice that you lose a lot of hair after washing your hair or emptying the piles of hair on your comb / brush, you may be losing more hair than usual.  In this case, it is useful to consult a specialist doctor.  Your doctor will try to determine the underlying cause of your hair loss.
The most common cause of hair loss is hereditary male or female type baldness.  If your family has a history of baldness, this type of hair loss is likely to occur.
In some cases, hair loss can occur with a simple stop in the hair growth cycle.  Certain diseases, surgeries or traumatic events may trigger hair loss.
Hormonal changes can also cause temporary hair loss.  For example;
· Pregnancy
· Childbearing
· Discontinuation of birth control pills
· Menopause
Some medical conditions that may cause hair loss can be listed as follows:
· Thyroid disease
· Alopecia areata (an autoimmune disease attacking hair follicles)
· Scalp infections such as ringworm
Scarring diseases such as lichen planus and some types of lupus can cause permanent hair loss.
Hair loss can also be caused by drugs used to treat some diseases:
· Cancer
·       Hypertension
· Arthritis
· Depression
· Heart problems
A physical or emotional shock can trigger visible hair loss.  To give an example of this type of shock;
· Death in the family
· Excessive weight loss
·       High fever
A diet devoid of protein, iron and other nutrients can also cause hair to become thinner, causing damage.

How is hair transplantation done?

In hair transplantation process, the most possible grafts are taken from the area designated as a donor area by a specialist doctor.  Roots are then placed in a special PRP solution and the channels in which the roots are planted are opened.  Finally, the roots are transferred to the opened channels and the process is completed.
It is very important that the person performing the process is competent in this area since these procedures require extremely sensitivity.

What methods are used for hair transplantation?

There are many methods used in hair transplantation.  These methods may have different effects, completion times or prices.  Each method used in hair transplantation may vary.
Among the hair transplantation methods, FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) and DHI (Direct Hair Implant) can be considered as the most efficient.  FUE and DHI are the methods of hair transplantation for people to regain their lost hair.  These two methods have differences, pros and cons.  Of course, first of all, it is important to know what FUE and DHI methods are.

FUE HAIR TRANSPLANTATION

 What is FUE Hair Transplantation?

FUE stands for Follicular Unit Extraction.  Hair transplantation with FUE technique is one of the treatment methods for hair loss caused by male pattern baldness, various diseases and the use of certain medications.  FUE technique, which means follicular unit extraction, is one of the oldest techniques used in hair transplantation.
Hair transplantation with FUE technique started to be applied in 2003 has improved significantly since then.  This minimally invasive method of implanting hair follicles one by one is the most advanced hair transplantation method that offers maximum density without causing any linear scars in the donor area.  Therefore, the FUE method has become very popular worldwide.  The FUE hair restoration method, which requires considerable effort, requires extensive experience, skills and expertise on behalf of the responsible physician and his team.

Hair Transplant Operation with FUE Micromotor

The day of application is decided after the patient has been examined in detail with a digital micro-lens and it has been confirmed that it is a suitable FUE candidate.  On the day of operation, after drawing the patient’s hair and shortening the hair, numbing the donor area with local anesthesia begins.
Healthy hair follicles are removed from the donor area with the help of a special micro motor.  Tissue pieces (grafts) containing single, double, three or four foci are carefully collected.  Collection of follicles takes approximately 1.5 hours.  After the collection of healthy follicles, hair transplantation starts.  The area to be sown is anaesthetized by local anesthesia and the canals to which the roots will be sown are opened at a suitable angle and line at a depth of 3 mm.  The collected follicles are placed in the opened channels.  After the transplantation process is completed, the donor area is closed with medical dressing and hair transplantation is completed by FUE method.
This should be done with the utmost care, since it is really important that the hair follicles are positioned according to the natural line and angle.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of FUE micromotor?

FUE method has certain advantages and disadvantages as in every application.
One of the advantages of this method is that it does not require stitches.  After hair transplantation with FUE method, there is no visible scar in the donor area.  There may be very few incisions and wounds after surgery;  these also heal spontaneously without the need for external intervention.  Another positive aspect is that there is no pain in the donor area after graft removal.  These and other similar advantages are the positive aspects of FUE hair transplantation.
It is possible to talk about the negative aspects of FUE hair transplantation.  One of the negative aspects of this method is that it is not suitable for everyone.  In other words, some tests are performed before the procedure and if the damaged grafts are detected before applying this method, the procedure is not possible.
Another disadvantage of this method is that the individual uptake of hair follicles is laborious.  If the operation is to be performed, most of the head needs to be shaved, which is seen as a disadvantage for many people.

SAPPHIRE HAIR TRANSPLANTATION

 Sapphire FUE Hair Transplantation

As everyone knows, sapphire is one of the most precious stones.  It is also known for its hardness, durability and gloss.
With advanced technology, Sapphire FUE Hair Transplant is one of the newest and most common methods used in hair transplantation techniques.
The sapphire blade used in practice is the name of special blades used in the “grooving” stage, which has the potential to influence the direct result of hair transplantation.  As the name implies, these blades made entirely of sapphire were obtained as a result of the studies carried out in order to obtain more efficient results in hair transplantation operations.  Studies show that the application has excellent perfection in hair transplantation and provides comfort to patients during operation and healing processes.
Specially designed sapphire pin blades can be used for hair transplantation performed by FUE and Percutaneous during grooving stages.

Advantages of Using Sapphire Blade in Hair Transplantation

The sapphire blade is in a more advantageous position compared to steel blades.  Steel blades may lose their sharpness over time, resulting in tissue loss during operation.  Sapphire, however, does not cause any tissue loss or trauma due to its sharpness, smooth surface and durable structure.  In addition, sapphire blades are antibacterial and do not cause deterioration in blood circulation.
In order to achieve a successful and natural result, it is very important to attach the transplanted roots to the transplanted area.  Since the channels opened by sapphire blades do not impair the blood circulation and the quality of the tissue, the follicles are better attached to their new locations.  In addition, since the sapphire blades allow micro-channel opening, the recovery time is significantly shortened.
However, the use of a sapphire blade in patients with metal sensitivity and metal allergy greatly reduces the risk of allergies and sensitivity.
The sapphire blade, which was introduced in 2016, has been used in the FUE technique and recently the technique has been called as afir Sapphire FUE Hair Transplantation iyle.

Difference Between Sapphire FUE and Classic FUE

The most important difference between Sapphire FUE and Classic FUE is that sapphire blades are used instead of steel blades.  In addition to being a very valuable crystal, sapphire is also a very useful element for making incisions because there is no distortion of the shape.
The use of the sapphire blade in the FUE technique started an innovative era in hair transplantation and took the globally used FUE technique to the next level since 2004.  Sapphire blades, which allow smaller grooves to be opened than steel grooves, have helped to shorten patient recovery time.

Sapphire FUE Hair Transplant Method Details

First, the patient who is considering the Sapphire FUE method is examined.  During the examination, information about the medical history of the patient is obtained and detailed hair and scalp checks are performed with a digital micro lens.  As a result of these checks, the type of hair loss is determined.  If the patient is suitable for hair transplantation, operation planning is carried out considering the needs and expectations of the patient.
On the day of operation, the patient’s hair is cut to 3 mm.  The donor site with healthy hair follicles is then numbed locally and the grafts removed.  Once the grafts have been removed, the area to be transplanted is anesthetized locally.  After this anesthesia, the channels where the hair follicles will be transplanted are opened with sapphire blades and the hair follicles are placed in the canals.  Sapphire FUE transplantation ends after bandage closure of the donor area.

Sapphire FUE Grooving Method

Small channels are opened with sapphire blades in order to place the hair follicles in the area to be transplanted.  Channels have a significant effect on the volume, angle and direction of hair growth, which is the determinant of achieving a natural appearance.  For successful hair transplantation, opening the channels correctly is the most important step.  Therefore, it would be a good choice to use a special three-dimensional sapphire instrument.
The channels can be opened very well by sapphire method in hair transplantation process.  Since sapphire blades are small and thin, they do not have much contact with the outside of the grafts.  In addition, the healing process of Sapphire FUE Hair Transplantation procedures is shorter than others.

DHI HAIR TRANSPLANTATION

 DHI Hair Transplantation

The DHI Hair Transplant (Direct Hair Implant) method, laid by the Greek doctor Konstantinos Giutis and his team, dates back to 1970.  In 2016, the DHI method, which took years of research and development, became widespread and became world-renowned.  DHI is a variation of the FUE method.
The hair follicles are removed from the donor area by micro motor or manual method and transferred to the waiting area for transplantation by DHI method.  The most important feature that distinguishes this method from other hair transplantation applications is the use of a special medical device known as Imp Choi Implanter ”and Pen Choi Pen”.  The indispensable instrument of the DHI method, Choi Pen, has made the application also called “choi method hair transplantation”.  Other known names of the application are “Direct Hair Transplantation” and “Leon Technique”.
One of the most important advantages of DHI method is ir unshaved hair transplantation ”.  Therefore, this technique, which is applied without having to shave the area to be planted, is known as the favorite hair transplantation method of women.

How is DHI Hair Transplantation Done?

Firstly, as required by FUE method, after the necessary evaluations are made by the specialist physician on the patient, it is determined whether the candidate has suitable properties for the DHI method.  The appropriate time period for the transplantation day following compliance is determined by the suitability of the doctor’s and patient’s schedule.  On the day of operation, only the donor area (usually the nape) of the patient is shaved.  Grafts containing single, double, triple or quadruple hair follicles begin to be collected by micro motor or manually.  The collected roots are placed in the planting area without waiting.  At this stage, FUE gets involved in the pen and the hair follicles collected are planted together with FUE
The biggest difference that distinguishes DHI from other hair transplantation methods is that thanks to FUE grooving and hair root placement can be performed at the same time.  The cane is opened with the tip of FUEE used in the application and the hair root is placed in the canal and the planting process is completed.

Sensitive Points of DHI Hair Transplantation

Compared to other hair transplantation techniques, DHI technique stands out as a better option for hair transplantation with dense hair follicles.  Thus, more natural looking and dense hair can be obtained.  In addition, with the help of FUEE it is much easier to adjust the symmetry of the front hairline, which is of great importance in hair transplantation, to extend the hair in its original direction of origin and to open the channels where the hair follicles are placed.  All these parameters necessary for a natural result are very easy thanks to FEE but the expertise of the doctor performing the operation is the determining factor in the quality of the procedure.
Because DHI hair transplantation requires special care, the expertise of the physician performing the procedure is very important.  There is no reason why the FUEE technique, applied by a specialist doctor and team, does not produce the desired result.

 Painless Hair Transplantation

 Needle-free plantation

Needle-free hair transplantation technique is a suitable option for patients with hair loss and baldness problems but avoiding support for hair transplantation because of fear of needles.  The fear of pain during needle injection is an important factor that is often overlooked but may interfere with the treatment of hair transplantation.
Needle-free local anesthesia technique can be applied in FUE and DHI techniques.
How to apply the needle-free hair transplantation technique?
It is known that some people with needle phobia refuse to have hair transplantation because of the use of needles during anesthesia performed before and during hair transplantation.  Needle-free anesthesia with a special jet injector eliminates the need for a needle.
This special syringe makes it possible to anesthetize using a high-speed fluid flow that penetrates the skin and enters the bloodstream.  This method not only provides comfortable treatment for people with needle phobia, but also provides comfortable anesthesia for all patients by reducing needle pain.  In addition, it was found that the anesthesia procedure was faster.

Where do healthy hair roots come from?

Healthy hair follicles are generally taken from the back of the head and nape of the head and transported to the area to be transplanted.

What are the benefits of needle-free hair transplantation?

Today, hair transplantation can be performed without causing pain by using special needle-free anesthesia tools.  These special tools allow the anesthetic to reach under the skin with a pressure spray system.  Anesthesia performed in needle-free hair transplantation provides psychological relief to the patients and, as experts say, is also technically beneficial.
With the rapid onset of anesthesia using a needle-free syringe, patients feel more comfortable during the procedure.  The liquid jet system, which provides the application of needle-free anesthesia, enables the distribution of anesthetic substance to a more stable and wider area in the anesthetized area.  Thus, the effect of anesthesia is increased when compared with local anesthesia with injector needle.  Needle phobia and therefore people who hesitate to have hair transplantation, thanks to this technique can be easily transplanted.
Moreover, during the needle-free hair transplant operation, the patient can comfortably perform activities such as watching movies, reading books or listening to music.

How is the healing process in needle-free hair transplantation technique?

Since no needles and cutting tools are used in the needle-free hair transplantation technique, incision, suture and grooving applications are not performed on the scalp.  Therefore, the recovery process of the patient is much faster than other techniques.  However, it is important that the patient does not expose the scalp to sunlight for several weeks after the operation.

Unshaved Hair Transplantation

Hair loss or thinning in both men and women may cause problems in terms of appearance and psychological aspects.  Nowadays, many methods can be applied to eliminate such problems in hair.  Since the natural appearance does not deteriorate after the hair transplantation operation is important for almost everyone, there is great interest in unshaved hair transplantation.
Since shaving the hair area during the operation may cause problems in the work and social life of many people, the participants will usually either postpone or decide to give up.  In such cases, the importance of unshaven hair transplantation once again comes to the fore and the person having the application has the opportunity to continue his work and social life without any problems after the operation.

Unshaved Hair Transplantation

Unshaved Hair Transplantation can be combined with FUE and DHI method.  It is usually carried out by transferring healthy shaft-metric hair follicles taken from the nape with special equipment without shaving.  The biggest difference of unshaved hair transplantation is, as its name implies, that the treated area is not shaved.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of unshaved hair transplantation?

Unshaved Hair Transplantation is almost the same as standard hair transplantation with FUE method.  In this technique, since the hair is not shaved during application, the transplanted area can be hidden by the length of the existing hair.  Thus, there is no indication that hair transplantation is performed from outside.  Scaling occurs in the scalp in the first week after application, but after about 8 to 10 days this condition improves.  The elongation of the cultivated roots continues for up to 3 months.  Approximately 1 year in the region of hair transplantation will achieve the desired appearance.

FAQ

The transplanted hair is shed within a few weeks of hair transplantation, but this is normal;  hair loss will grow in a healthy way in 3-4 months.  Once this temporary shedding has healed, the transplanted hair follicles retain their properties and are not shed again.  However, the original hair in the same transplanted area may continue to shed and a new hair transplant may be planned due to the decrease in hair density.

The transplanted hair will be guaranteed as long as a health problem and / or treatment process does not affect the hair follicles and cause hair loss.  The hair transplanted after the operation takes its place as original hair and gives a natural appearance.
The guarantee is valid as long as you are not exposed to any cancer treatment, such as chemotherapy or radiotherapy, or other diseases and treatments that may harm your hair.

Hair transplantation is an important surgical procedure that requires seriousness.  In order to minimize the risks of hair transplantation, it should be performed in a well-equipped hospital environment.  However, for the best results, it is very important that the procedure be performed by experienced plastic surgeons trained in hair transplantation.  For a natural appearance after the procedure, the hair follicles taken from the donor area should be transplanted to the areas where the correct distance, the right angle and the right density are shed.  The success rate of hair transplantation performed by a correct method in a well-equipped hospital is quite high.

Although there is no age limit for hair transplantation, the pros and cons of hair transplantation should be carefully evaluated in young patients.  Patients between 20-30 years of age should have a stabilized rate of hair loss before hair transplantation.  A detailed family history will be helpful in assessing hair loss and planning a new hairline.
Age may be an important factor in patients who need more than a medically standard hair transplantation procedure.

The exact pattern of hair loss in patients over 25 years of age can be precisely determined.  It can be difficult to determine exactly how hair loss will continue in patients under 25 years of age.
There is no maximum age limit for hair transplantation.  As long as the donor area from which healthy hair follicles are to be removed is in good condition, hair transplantation can be applied to any patient over 25 years of age.

The amount of hair to be transplanted varies according to the size of the area where hair loss occurs.  Healthy hair follicles are generally taken from the back of the head which is more resistant to shedding and transferred to the area where shedding is experienced.  After a detailed examination, your doctor will determine how much hair follicle transplantation will be performed to ensure a natural appearance after sowing.  On average, between 2,000 and 3,000 hair follicles are transplanted in one session.

Scaling occurs in the scalp in the first week after application, but after about 8 to 10 days this condition improves.  The elongation of the cultivated roots continues for up to 3 months.  When the hair first comes out, it becomes as soft as a baby’s hair.  Then, instead of these thin hair, longer and thicker hair starts to come.  Approximately 1 year in the region of hair transplantation will achieve the desired appearance.
